Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., (NYSE: TMO), the world leader in serving science, today announced it received a Gold Innovation Award from the Convention on Pharmaceutical Ingredients (CPhI) for its Thermo Scientific TruScan, a handheld Raman spectrometer used for raw material identification and finished product authentication in the pharmaceutical industry.
CPhI announced the winners on Oct. 5, 2010, at the CPhI Conference, an event that gathers more than 26,500 attendees and nearly 2,000 exhibitors from the pharmaceutical industry.
"We are extremely pleased that CPhI has recognized our innovative approach to miniaturizing laboratory technology into lightweight, handheld instruments for material verification at the point of need," said Doug Kahn, vice president and general manager of Thermo Fisher Scientific's portable optical analysis business. "TruScan is now successfully deployed in more than 300 GMP sites worldwide and is proving to be an effective, more efficient alternative to traditional benchtop methods for raw material identification."
